Roseanne tries to help Dan deal with life-changing news: his mother has a history of mental illness and psychiatric hospital stays. Ed allowed Dan to believe her imbalance was his fault all these years, due to his absence in Dan's life, in an effort to keep Dan's mother looking favorable in his eyes. Dan must come to terms with the idea that his father isn't the monster he always believed him to be.

Bev breaks her pelvis while at the retirement home, saying she fell out of the shower. Roseanne discovers Bev broke her pelvis in a more lustful way. Fred pops the question to Jackie, just not the one she was hoping for.

Mark and David struggle with the concepts of feminism. Fred asks Roseanne about ways to propose to Jackie, and uses lines from her favorite soap opera. Roseanne demands passion from Dan, but turns to fantasy instead.

Fred and Jackie are unsure whether to get hitched or not, especially since Fred thinks Jackie is having an affair with Dan. They break off the wedding, but after realizing he wasn't being realistic, Fred begs Jackie to marry him. At the ceremony, Jackie breastfeeds Andy at the Altar.
